After careful consideration and extensive discussion, the Board of Directors of Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps has made the difficult but responsible decision to be inactive for the 2027 competitive season.

This was not an easy decision.

Genesis has always believed that the experience provided to its members must come first. As operational costs across non-profit performing arts have increased, our current revenue model makes it increasingly difficult to provide the level of experience, resources, instruction, and support our members deserve.

Rather than compromise that commitment simply to remain on the field, Genesis will use 2027 to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the organization, including its financial model, operations, member experience, and long-term sustainability.

It has become increasingly difficult for us to serve our membership at the level we believe they deserve, given the revenue Genesis generates annually and the rising costs of tuition. The financial demands of today’s drum corps activity have increased significantly, and continuing simply for the sake of remaining on the field would not be responsible.

Our members deserve more than our ability to simply make a season happen. They deserve an outstanding educational experience, strong instruction, appropriate resources, and an organization positioned for long-term success.

Being inactive for the 2027 season is incredibly difficult, but it gives us the opportunity to honestly evaluate where we are, what must change, and how we can build a stronger future for Genesis.

We understand this announcement will be disappointing to our members, alumni, staff, volunteers, families, fans, donors, and everyone who has supported Genesis throughout its history. We are deeply grateful for the compassion, encouragement, and understanding already expressed by so many throughout the drum corps community.

Throughout the coming year, the Board of Directors and organizational leadership will evaluate Genesis from top to bottom and determine the most responsible path forward. Refunds have been processed for any student who has signed up for one of our 2027 events. 

To everyone who has worn the Genesis uniform, taught our members, volunteered, donated, cheered from the stands, or believed in this organization: thank you for standing with Genesis during this extraordinarily difficult decision.

We will share additional information about the organization and its future as it becomes available.
