General Requirements

Age

You must be between the ages of 16 and 21 years old by May 31st. 22 year olds are eligible to march if your birthday is on or after June 1st. We believe that students all over this age range can be successful in our organization as long as you are committed to excellence and willing to put in the work.

Talent

Unless otherwise stated, you should have experience in brass, percussion (battery or front ensemble), colorguard or marching band. You will be evaluated by our educational staff at all audition and rehearsal events with the expectation of improvement over time. Goals and objectives will be based on materials in the audition packet and in-person discussions at audition events.

Attitude

Every single day, we get up and go to work. We live by those words and expect you to live by them, too. You will be pushed harder than you ever have before, and there will be times where you will be tempted to give up. Positivity and perseverance will see you and your fellow performers through the easy and more difficult days.

Health & Fitness

The rehearsal, performance, and travel schedule involved are extremely demanding, and a full health history and physical exam are required by every performer every performing season to adequately assess your fitness. It is crucial that you are able to withstand the physical, mental, and emotional toll of the day-to-day. This information is to ensure that our medical staff is able to adequately assist you during the season should you need it.

Attendance

If you are offered a call back or a contract, you are required to attend every rehearsal event required by your section. Please review the camp schedule and note any conflicts with school events. These must be discussed with your caption staff as soon as you know about them. Last minute/emergency school and family events should be communicated with your caption staff as soon as possible.

Financial Commitment

All member fees are mandatory. We expect that you will have developed a plan to meet the financial commitment before you audition. Payments should be made on time according to the schedule outlined in your contract. Any financial issues should be communicated right away to determine if any assistance can be offered. See the financial page for a more detailed outline of this commitment.

Register and pay

Use this registration form to register in the FENIXperience.

The registration fee is $100 until September 1st and $150 after that.

This covers all materials, online lessons, video submissions and staff interactions as well as your first In-Person Camp for Virtual participants including housing, meals and instruction.  Once you have filled out the you will be all set to begin your journey.

Enroll In Our Online Audition Platform

Once you register and pay, you will automatically receive a confirmation email that will instruct you to enroll in both our Brass and Visual audition platforms.

Once enrolled you will be walked through the process by our instructors in the form of an online video course. These videos will teach you the exercises you will need to perform in your audition video.

Submit Your Audition Videos

Once you complete the video courses, create and submit your audition videos. Make sure you follow all of the instructor’s instructions as closely as you can. Attention to detail is very important!!

Make sure you submit to both the Brass and Visual online audition platforms.

Attend An In Person Audition Camp

Attending an in person camp in the Fall and online video submission are both required. You must select at least one audition event to attend. Dates and locations for audition camps are listed above on this page.

Your registration fee covers the cost of your first audition camp.

The audition weekend includes all housing, meals and instruction and will be action packed with clinicians, introductions to our 2023 production and much more.

Make sure to bring your instrument, as we will not have enough to go around during audition events.

1 – Contract – Congratulations, you have been offered a contract to be a performer for the 2023 Season

2 – Call Back – Competition is fierce this year, we need to see more from you before offering you a contract.

Enroll In Our Online Audition Platform

Once enrolled you will be walked through the process by our instructors in the form of an online video course. These videos will teach you the exercises you will need to perform in your audition video.

First you will be asked to perform some basic conducting patterns, gestures, and exercises. Our staff will be evaluating how well you have followed the instructions, how well you emulate the conducting style demonstrated in the videos, and most importantly, how consistently you are hitting the beat. To get a leg up on the competition, enroll in our free drum major training, Drum Major Essentials. Next you will be asked to answer a few simple questions on camera. This is just to give us a first impression of your communication skills and personality.

Submit Your Audition Video

Once you complete the video courses, create and submit your audition video. Make sure you follow all of the instructor’s instructions as closely as you can. Attention to detail is very important!!

While videos are not due until Nov. 1st, we encourage you to register and begin submitting your videos early.  The earlier you submit your videos, the more opportunity you will have to get feedback from our team, possibly resubmit a video and increase your chances of making the team.

Attend An In Person Audition Camp

Attending an in person camp in the Fall and online video submission are both required. You must select at least one audition event to attend. Dates and locations for audition camps are listed above on this page. But, it is highly recommended for drum majors that you come to the Thanksgiving weekend FENIXperience camp.

Your registration fee covers the cost of your first audition camp.

The audition weekend includes all housing, meals and instruction and will be action packed with clinicians, introductions to our 2023 production and much more.

At this point, if you have not already, you should enroll in our free drum major training course, Drum Major Essentials. Completing this comprehensive training will give you a full understanding of our curriculum and give you the best chance of being successful at the in person audition event.

At the audition camp you will participate in leadership training sessions, conduct in front of the brass ensemble, learn about field timing and rehearsal logistics, make friends other excellent conductors like yourself, and be instructed by our World Class conducting staff. You will also enter an individual audition room where you will perform a piece of music of your choice to show off your skills and where you will be interviewed by our Corps Director and Head Conductor.
