Genesis Front Ensemble upgrades distance learning methods with Pearl malletSTATIONs

The Genesis Front Ensemble (Fenix Front) and the team at Pearl teamed up to help our students continue to learn and grow at home during the COVID-19 summer with Pearl malletSTATIONs.

Genesis DBC Front Ensemble Coordinator Andrea Walsh-It’s definitely been a great option for our members that are stuck at home without access to a keyboard. The students get to learn their notes, see the patterns that their hands are going to move in, and hear what the music sounds like no matter which instrument in the front ensemble they play. The malletSTATIONS have been a great flexible solution that allows us to continue educating our students from a distance.”

As part of the recently established partnership with Pearl/Adams, Genesis is looking forward to exploring the flexibility and options the malletSTATION provides. We plan to work with the team at Pearl to find new and exciting ways to utilize these devices both on-field and off.

Genesis enters exclusive partnership with Pearl/Adams for Brass and Percussion Instruments

Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps, Inc. is proud to announce an incredible new partnership with Pearl/Adams for the exclusive use of Adams Marching Brass with Pearl and Adams Percussion instruments. This new partnership brings together a titan in our industry and one of the “new kids on the block” in drum corps for the first time.

Genesis DBC Executive Director Chris Magonigal- “I have admired the Pearl brand since I was a performer back in the late 90’s. That brand always stuck out to me as the brand champions recognize as the best, and I was a brass kid. Now a bit older I still see the Pearl brand as THE brand in our activity and have recognized their commitment to quality and the dedication to their artists, which were the main factors in choosing Pearl/Adams over other bids. We are all extremely excited to be entering into this new partnership and to the future of our organization, especially in light of recent events in our country. To be able to continue to do business and provide our current and future students with this standard of equipment is such a positive message with all that we are facing in this world. Genesis will now be able to expand its mission further and provide offerings to more students through this partnership. To have a partner who is committed to helping students and sees the need to have young people succeed using the best instruments possible has been an incredible ray of light for our organization.”

Shawn Lafrenz, Sr. Marketing Manager for Pearl Corporation; “We are excited to partner with Genesis DBC. The driving force of the corps’ “Education Through Performance” philosophy is a perfect fit for the Pearl/Adams team of world-class artists and the championship design quality of our products. We look forward to the exciting results on and off the field with this new chapter for both organizations.”

From Austin Texas, Genesis recently celebrated its 10th anniversary season and is considered one of the up and coming organizations in DCI World Class competition. Genesis is a 2-time DCI Bronze Medalist in the Open Class and is an 8-time World Class Semifinalist. The organizations mission is “to provide life enriching experiences and lessons to our youth through the medium of the marching arts.” Genesis has consistently achieved artistic and performance excellence and is recognized as an exceptional and excellence-driven group. With the inclusion of a leadership curriculum drawing upon top training methodologies used in corporate America, the organization provides educational, cultural, interpersonal, physical and emotional growth necessary for our young people to become leaders.

COVID-19 Update: Genesis DBC 2020 Season Canceled

COVID-19 Update: Genesis DBC 2020 Season Canceled

https://youtu.be/v9pa38Cf8Og
From DCI:

“We know this is a difficult time for everyone as we all respond to the COVID-19 crisis. The events worldwide have impacted Drum Corps International as well, forcing cancellation of the 2020 Summer Tour as of Wednesday, March 25.

DCI’s voting membership unanimously reached the difficult decision with great regret after thorough evaluation of numerous factors affecting participant health and safety, travel requirements, logistics, venue availability, and other associated issues. The membership also agreed that in order to preserve the opportunity for this year’s class of age-outs, performers will receive additional eligibility based on existing age requirements with a one-year extension.

Above all else, the entire DCI community remains unified in its commitment to preserve the health, safety, and well-being of everyone involved in our activity.

We share in the profound disappointment of the thousands of remarkable performers who will be unable to take the field this summer on the 2020 DCI Tour. We encourage every one of them to continue to commit fully to the pursuit of their personal best. We sincerely hope that corps members everywhere will continue to embrace the values taught through participation in the marching arts to remain motivated until we are able to perform together under the stadium lights once again.

We are extremely grateful for everyone who continues to support our participating corps — from the incredible teachers, designers, judges and administrators to the uniform, instrument and marching music products companies. We are fortunate to have a nationwide network of Tour Event Partners, band directors, schools and performance venues who keep the lights shining bright on our performers. Our most heartfelt appreciation also goes out to the countless staff, event staff, volunteers, health and wellness providers, and to DCI’s vast family of fans around the world, along with countless parents and alumni who have always been the unconditional allies of our performers.

DCI and all participating organizations will shift focus from tour preparation to addressing the sizable operational and financial challenges resulting from these extraordinary circumstances. In the coming weeks and months, DCI and the corps will work to develop the plans necessary to return to a full schedule in 2021.”

We will provide information soon on ways to help ensure that drum corps emerges from this crisis stronger than ever. Together, we will #MarchOn.

March Camp Canceled Amid Coronavirus Concerns

March Camp Canceled Amid Coronavirus Concerns

In light of the recent Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, we are paying close attention to developments surrounding the virus and how it may affect Genesis DBC operations. As more information is revealed, we have prepared to make any changes to plans and procedures to continue our mission of prioritizing the health and wellness of our performers, volunteers, and staff.

At the time that we are posting this, the threat level for COVID-19 in Austin, TX is low, however  South by Southwest (SXSW)— the music festival scheduled for March 13-22, 2020— has been canceled.

In light of this decision by the city of Austin, the Genesis DBC administrative team has come to the decision that it is appropriate to cancel the rehearsal camp scheduled for March 13-15, 2020.

We encourage everyone to educate themselves on COVID-19 and best practices for preventing the spread of the virus. What we know about COVID-19 is that it’s spread from person to person, so we will continue to put emphasis on:

  • Regular hand-washing with soap and warm water
  • Refraining from touching the face and mouth
  • Discouraging sharing food and beverages

We are following official sources for our updates, and we recommend that you bookmark these to remain informed:

The CDC provides daily updates that we will continue to follow and use to inform our decisions. We will notify all Genesis DBC performers, families, and staff of any further changes immediately. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email at [email protected].

Genesis Partners with Sabian and Innovative Percussion, Inc in 2020

Genesis Partners with Sabian and Innovative Percussion, Inc in 2020

The 2019 season was amazing for our organization. It was clear in July at the DCI Southwestern Championship that our performers were aware of the great things they could accomplish together, and they made all of us aware of that as well!

This led to a solid end of the season where we saw that the corps would constantly grow through DCI World Championships  After 10 years, we continue to find ourselves surrounded by people from all ages and walks of life who want to be part of our mission to provide life-enriching experiences to our youth through the marching arts. As we look ahead to the next 10 years, we will continue to focus on Education Through Performance.

  • The next 10 years have already begun for us. We have made significant strides forward since the 2019 season has ended.
  • New technologies have been implemented at camps
  • We have expanded our Board of Directors.
  • We are excitedly entering a new era of leadership with Francesca Ramirez on the podium leading our conducting team and drum corps.
  • The full creative team has returned for our 2020 production.
  • Two alumni, John Filippone and Micah Gause, worked tirelessly to unveil the new Genesis DBC website this past October.
  • Charles Aguillon, with all his knowledge and experience, joined our team as Director of Education.
  • We have launched the new Legacy of the Podium Clinic, which will occur annually at our FENIXperience camps.

There is so much that is happening to make the upcoming summer tour amazing for everyone in the Fenix Family and beyond! As we step into the 1st days of 2020, it is beyond exciting to announce that Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps is proud to be working exclusively with Sabian and Innovative Percussion, Inc (IP)!

“It’s an incredible opportunity for Genesis to work with these companies. Over many, many years, the constant line heard from our peers has simply been, “They are great people to work with.” After the conversations we’ve had, I have no doubt. And now I am just that much more excited about what the next 10 years are going to bring for our young people!”

-Danny Sanchez, Board Chairman

Recognized as a leader in the percussion world, IP is sought after by marching arts ensembles, professional touring ensembles, classical percussionists, Drumset Artists, and professional educators all around the world. IP is championed by entities with a burning passion for percussion and education, and Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps is thrilled to be a part of the Innovative Percussion Family.

Sabian is a historic brand. The instruments they create are second to none. The palette, the range, the consistency, and the creativity that Sabian inspires is recognized globally. When we look back to those moments that are keystones in our musical lives, and in our artistic expression, it is inevitable that those moments were created with Sabian instruments. Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps is proud to be a part the Sabian Family.

Legacy of the Podium Clinic Launches at FENIXperience Camp

On November 30, at Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps’ annual FENIXperience camp, The Legacy of the Podium Leadership and Conducting Clinic will launch. This is the first official clinic that the corps will host, designed and run by past drum majors of the organization.

“Genesis Conductors are a small, tightly knit community, and it is going to be a blast to have so much of Genesis drum major history in the same room for the clinics. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are very much looking forward to welcoming in a fresh group of students and candidates and showing them what it is that makes the Genesis Podium unique.”

John Filippone, Conductor 2013-2016

The clinic will cover basic conducting, field timing, service leadership, and conducting and ensemble. There are two options for attending the clinic, which will be offered at both weekends of the FENIXperience camp- one day or the entire weekend. The full weekend option includes an audition for the 2020 Genesis Drum Major team, but it is not required. Regardless of which option you pick, it is sure to be an educating and fun-filled weekend developing leadership and conducting styles.
